Let your friends choose from these Christmas cookie ornaments to decorate their homes!
Preparation & Decoration time: 1-1/4 hours What you'll need:
1 bag M&M'S(R) Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for the Holidays
2/3 cup flour
1 1z. roll store-bought refrigerated cookie dough
Rolling pin
1 cookie sheet pan
Straw
Christmas-themed cookie cutters
1 16-oz. box confectioner's sugar
3 tablespoons powdered egg whites or meringue powder
Red and green food coloring
Water
3 resealable plastic bags
24 12-inch thin satin ribbons
Small evergreen tree
What To Do:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Knead the flour into the cookie dough until smooth. Roll out the dough to a scant 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using the Christmas-themed cookie cutters, cut out the desired shapes.
2. Transfer the shapes to an ungreased cookie sheet. Using a straw, punch a hole at the top of each cookie (for hanging). Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven, transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely.
3. Beat the confectioner's sugar, egg whites, and 6 tablespoons of water until the mixture is thick and fluffy. If too thick, add a few drops of water.
4. Divide the frosting into thirds: tint one third green, one third red, and leave the other third white.
5. Spoon each color into a resealable plastic bag with a small hole snipped from the corner. Pipe frosting onto the cookies; then decorate with M&M'S(R) Brand Milk Chocolate Candies for the Holidays. Set aside to dry.
6. String each cookie with a strand of ribbon and hang it from a small tree. As people come and go during the holiday season, each person can select one cookie to hang on their tree at home. This can be a great gift for neighbors, kids, delivery folks...anyone who happens to stop by!
Makes 24 cookies
Tip: If making these cookies with young children, divide the project over two days. On the first day: roll out the dough, cut out the shapes, and bake the cookies. On the second day: decorate the cookies and hang them from the tree. Remember, young children have lots of enthusiasm, but short attention spans!
