Grandma's Split Pea Soup

GRANDMA KRAUSE'S SPLIT PEA SOUP

Large soup pot.
Ham bones.  (I save about 5 to 7 ham bones, with a little ham left on them)
1/2 pot of water
2 pkgs split peas (12 oz. each)
1 can tomato soup
3 potatos, cut in quarters
3 celery (sliced)
1 onion (chopped)
1 pgk carrots, peeled and sliced
salt and pepper

Boil split peas, ham bones water, salt & pepper until peas are liquid. Remove the meat from the bones.

Add: meat, celery, onion, carrots, potatos and tomato soup to the pot.

Simmer on low all day...........

My grandmother lived with us and she used to make this soup.  It was always a family favorite, especially with my Dad.  It was his favorite soup. I always made it for him too.

Thanks Pat!

This looks like my mom's split pea recipe ... only difference is I don't remember her using tomato soup!

I'll have to try this one. I just bought some split peas last week since it's soup season, and I'm planning on ham for Christmas dinner. I'll let you know how it turns out!

And with MIL coming for Christmas, she's going to be making her 'famous' Navy bean and ham soup! Yay!!!

Thanks again!

You are welcome Cassi.  Hope you like it.

I have to try your MIL Navy Bean soup too.  I have the beans, just need the ham.

Have a great weekend!
