Broiled Open Faced Burgers with Onions and Mushroo


Serves 4


 


·         1 pound  ground turkey


·         3 tablespoons  finely chopped onion


·         3 tablespoons  water


·         1 teaspoon thyme


·         1 teaspoon garlic powder


·         salt and pepper -- to taste


 


MUSHROOMS A ND ONIONS


1 medium  onion -- thinly sliced


1 tablespoon  olive oil


1 cup  mushrooms -- sliced


1/2 teaspoon  Worcestershire sauce


 


Mix ground turkey, onion, water, seasonings, and salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 4 patties, each about 3/4 inch thick.


 


Preheat oven to broil. Place patties on rack in broiler pan. Broil about 3 inches from heat until desired doneness. Prepare the mushrooms and onions to go over the top of the burgers.


 


MUSHROOMS AND ONIONS (can be made while burgers are broiling. Keep an eye on the burgers though and use a timer).


 


In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat,  and the onions stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir in mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce; heat until mushrooms are hot and cooked through. Top burgers with this mixture.

LC SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Rutabaga fries (peel rutabagas, slice into fries, toss with a little olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper and bake in 375 oven till brown; turn once and bake till brown again) and big green salad.


 


SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Throw the burger on a bun and serve the usual condiments with it.
